What happened today
Two weeks ago, three bags of donations left a Philadelphia warehouse for loading. Today the trackers told us where they went next. All three pinged together at the Port of New York and New Jersey, the busiest container port on the East Coast, in and around Elizabeth, New Jersey. MACONA-TKR-2 checked in along the New Jersey Turnpike in Linden at 8:13 this morning, and MACONA-TKR-3 surfaced a few hours later right at the Elizabeth marine terminal on Newark Bay, container yards on every side.
This is the last checkpoint on US soil. From this terminal the container is loaded onto an ocean vessel and begins the crossing to West Africa, then travels overland toward Mali for distribution. Seeing all three trackers arrive at the port together is exactly the confirmation we want before the container goes to sea.

Why the port matters, and why dollars keep it moving
Reaching the port is the moment the invisible costs begin. Ocean freight to landlocked Mali is slow, roughly three months door to door, and getting a container onto a ship and off again is where donated dollars do the quiet work: port fees, customs clearance, and safe last-mile transport once the container lands in West Africa. In-kind donations fill the bags. Dollar donations move them across the ocean.
