What happened
On October 11, all 3 of our trackers checked in together at the Tanger Med container port in Morocco, on the Strait of Gibraltar. Then the ship pulled back out to sea, and they went quiet again.
On October 19 at 12:42, MACONA-TKR-3 reported from the North Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Mauritania and Senegal, north of Dakar and east of the Cape Verde islands. That is more than 1,000 miles south of Morocco, and only a short distance from the African coast.
The whole route on one map. The upper marker is where the trackers last checked in together, in Morocco. The lower marker is MACONA-TKR-3, now off the coast of West Africa.
Where are the other 2 trackers?
Most likely right next to it. All 3 bags travel in the same container, and on October 11 all 3 trackers checked in within 1 minute of each other. Out at sea, a tracker can only report when a phone on board happens to pass close by, so it is normal for just 1 of them to get through. Their last check-in still shows Morocco until they find a phone of their own.
One honest note on the map: this ping is an approximate location. Find My places the tracker somewhere inside a circle, so the exact spot on the water may be a little different. What it does tell us is clear: the shipment has left Morocco and is heading down the coast of West Africa.
What comes next
Our last shipment came ashore at the Port of Dakar in Senegal, then traveled overland to Mali. When this shipment reaches its port of arrival, the trackers should light up again on land, and we will post every ping on the live tracker.
Landing is not the finish line. After the port come customs clearance and the last miles over land to the women and children these bags are for. That is the part your gift pays for. In-kind donations fill the bags. Dollar donations carry them the rest of the way.
